Each unique piece is crafted out of recycled material that has been garnered from former industrial buildings in Manhattan. The furniture is also formed with as little machine work as possible. Finally, we conclude our holiday selection with one of our absolute favorite decorations: beautiful wreaths made from driftwood. Wreaths are holiday essentials, and we love the natural look of this one. Made from collected driftwood, this piece is hand crafted, durable, and completely eco-friendly. It also comes in a variety of shapes, including one (not pictured) with a reindeer head. Keeping everything green and earth-friendly around the holidays can be hard- there’s so much to do, and especially so much to wrap and decorate! Never fear, there’s still a way to keep it green. We like these clever alternatives:

Invented by a middle school student, this wrapping is not only green-friendly but a time-saver. Colorful bags with drawstrings in a plethora of colors and sizes insure that you’ll never need to use tape or scissors.

Fish Lips Paper Designs has hip, recycled giftwrap creations made with soy-based ink. We especially like the fun “Chilly Dogs” wrap.

We like these sweet, subtle little Christmas trees by Wood & Wool Stool. Made from 6 small planks of recycled wood, they bring a nice, earth-friendly touch to the upcoming holiday season.

Just in is our new collection of recycled glass bowls. The glass is sorted by color, melted and mouth blown by artisans in Europe into the various fluid shapes and soft aquatic colors reminiscent of sea glass.

Each bowl is heavy and great for everyday use as a salad or fruit bowl. Simply hand wash when done.

Besides the ones in this image, we also have starfish, clams and oblong bowls available. Since no two are alike, they are available only through contacting or visiting the store. $20-$100.

Not brave enough to suffer the various forms of sunburn possible testing the market’s most natural sunscreens, our hats are off (but they shouldn’t be in this sun) to the team at www.grist.org for their scientific, humorous and sometimes painful eco-sunscreen trial.

“Over the last several weeks, Grist staffers scooped up several of the readily available eco-brands—four sunscreens, which protect by absorbing ultraviolet rays, and five sunblocks, which provide a physical barrier on your skin—and tested them on our sun-deprived flesh. From the wan streets of Seattle to the blazing beaches of the Dominican Republic, we ventured out with nothing between us and the sun but some eco-promises.”
