This item is decorative and gives your table a beachy or modern zen look. Although placing a hot plate on the setting is fine, it is not recommended for high heat like a pot right off the stove.

Due to the irregular and natural pebble shapes, you may notice small gaps in between the rocks. This is a normal feature. If you look closely at the image of the black runner hanging off the table, you can see what we are referring to.
